PBG Statement

Have you ever heard someone say something like, “you really gotta love ranching to stay in it for the long haul”? It’s just a saying but every rancher knows there’s truth to that statement. You’ve either got it or you don’t. If you’ve got it, then you know exactly what we’re talking about. A drive like that is built in to you from the get-go. It’s a passion God created inherent within us. To be good stewards of the land and livestock that we are so fortunate to have. We’re designed to take care of animals and manage grass pastures.

Cattle were placed here for a purpose of thriving on grass pastures. Way back in the beginning you’ll find more than one written account of family members that had to separate their holdings and their livestock and move away from one another. When their operations had grown to a size the land wouldn’t support, their herds had to be divided and relocated. They knew better than to overgraze the land and didn’t have the means or the desire to confine cattle and supplement them with feed. Rather than fight an uphill battle, they sided with common sense and decided to spread out. They moved the herds to a place where they would have enough land with enough good forage to thrive.

Nowadays, land is a limited resource. It’s getting more and more expensive and it seems like there’s less of it available for grazing cattle all the time. That being the case, a lot of us find ourselves with a similar scenario to what we find way back in Genesis. Except we can’t spread out like they did at the drop of a hat. No matter what your faith is, you can still choose to side with common sense rather than fighting an uphill battle. You can choose to supplement cattle to meet their needs OR you can manage your stocking rates and implement rotational grazing systems to maximize the ability of the land to support the livestock. There are many hard working ranchers that do these things very well by making the most of what they have to not only survive in this industry, but to thrive. In the end though, we can all agree that our options are still limited. Just stop and think about it. Why not start off on the right foot and maximize the pounds of beef you can EFFICIENTLY produce per acre before we ever get started with anything else? Common sense says that high quality, forage efficient cattle will benefit any ranching operation. That’s where Pure Beef Genetics comes in.

Good stewards know that if you can’t measure something, you can’t manage it. When it comes to raising cattle, managing every little thing can help. Over the years, the guys at Pure Beef Genetics have identified a trend in the cattle industry. Cattle that are selected for certain traits will be more efficient in converting grass into beef than other cattle.

That doesn’t mean selecting for just high EPD’s, more like selecting cattle with well balanced EPD’s. These cattle tend to be moderately framed and easy fleshing. High quality cattle that are big topped, deep chested, big bellied with tons of spring to their ribs and plenty of room for their rumen-the protein factory-to turn forage into high quality beef. Cattle like that will top the scales with pounds of well marbled beef without the opportunity cost of pounds on boney frame. In the end, that’s what it all comes down to. The commercial cattleman makes a living from pounds of quality beef produced on their operation.

Pure Beef Genetics was created to get these efficient, hard working cattle out in front of hard working folks. It’s a breeder to breeder connection that is built on selecting cattle from operations all across the nation with superior phenotype and genetics that will thrive on grass. Imagine the possibility of a herd of cattle that works for the rancher just about as hard as the rancher works for them. Partner with common sense.

Let Pure Beef Genetics provide you with cattle built for their purpose.
